Tracking State-Based Marketplace 2026 Open Enrollment Data

Emily Zylla & Jessica Ngoboka, SHADAC

The 2026 open enrollment period for individuals to enroll in Marketplace health insurance plans has begun amid significant federal policy changes. Understanding how the scheduled expiration of the enhanced premium tax credits and other legislative and regulatory changes to Marketplace operations are immediately influencing consumer behavior and coverage uptake is crucial. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) recent 2026 open enrollment snapshot provides an early, standardized view of enrollment activity across all 50 states, including both State-Based Marketplaces (SBMs) and states that use the Federally Facilitated Marketplace.

Even with CMS data available, SBMs continue to play an important role in tracking and interpreting enrollment trends by offering timely, real-time enrollment data. Many SBMs regularly release more detailed or more frequent state-level updates, often weekly or biweekly, throughout open enrollment. These updates provide essential local context and often include comparisons to prior years, helping stakeholders understand emerging trends, shifts in consumer behavior, and operational needs.

To support ongoing tracking of this key information, SHADAC will regularly review SBM public reporting sites to identify which states are releasing real-time 2026 open enrollment data. The map below will serve as a one-stop resource for tracking these reporting activities, enabling users to easily access the most up-to-date SBM enrollment information. SHADAC will continue to update this tracker throughout the open enrollment period to reflect the latest developments in SBM reporting.
